Advocates for Surrogacy First Agency to Complete Process through U.S. Embassy in Guatemala

Posted on

Advocates for Surrogacy was the first agency to complete a surrogacy in Guatemala and file the the case before the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City to obtain a U.S. passport for the twins born through our surrogacy program. It’s never easy to be the first to do anything but we believed that implementing the highest standards in surrogacy arrangments would be imperative. We also realized that would set the standard for surrogacy in Guatemala – and we wanted that to be a high standard. In fact, we conform to the standards set forth by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Our Director, a licensed attorney, spent many years working in international adoption in Guatemala so she has a very good understanding of the ins and outs of working in Guatemala. Perhaps most importantly, she has gained expertise in surrogacy over the past several years that she can now bring to the Guatemalan surrogacy program. This expertise is invaluable because working with an experienced agency who has a U.S. program provides insight and knowledge that is absolutely needed when handling international surrogacy programs.

Our Director’s legal expertise was critical. She spent many hours researching U.S. Department of State regulation as well as processes in other international programs. It paid off – our first surrogacy case was processed very smoothly by the U.S. Embassy.
